Hi. I’m Capt. Daiki.

I’ve been a fishing addict since I first got into kayak fishing around 2020. I go out on the water three days a week to chase various fish around Awaji Island. Initially, it was difficult to get fish to bite because I couldn’t figure out the right “when” and “where,” but I’ve gotten much better now.

Along with my fishing enthusiasm, I’ve also focused on learning how to cook my catch. Through my experience cooking thousands of fish I’ve caught, I can now prepare them into a variety of dishes.

As for my English fluency, I spent a year in Sydney, Australia during high school. In my late 20s, I also spent two and a half years in Toronto, Canada as a busking musician.

Anyway, I hope you have a great fishing day in Japan with me.

Where to stay

Stay in Sumoto Onsen

Stay at the closest location to our departure port.

Upon booking – Since fishing is weather-dependent, we recommend booking both a primary and a backup day for your trip. Afterward, reserve accommodation in the Sumoto Onsen area. The captain will confirm your departure three days in advance, or suggest an alternative date if weather conditions are unfavorable. If all scheduled days are canceled due to rough seas, you can still enjoy a relaxing stay at Sumoto Onsen.

Access to the port – Some accommodations are within walking distance of the port. If yours isn’t, the captain will provide a free pickup.

Sushi Lunch(Option) – If you catch enough fish for lunch, the captain will arrange a sushi-making experience at the lodge, located just a 20-minute drive away.”

Stay at the Captain’s Lodge

Stay at the captain’s property — a relaxing, exclusive lodge with ocean views. Enjoy peaceful nights, with only a pancake shop within walking distance.

Upon booking – Book your fishing trip, and you can self-check-in to the lodge starting the day before (after 3 PM). You will receive the password for the key box once your departure is confirmed. If your fishing trip is canceled due to bad weather, you can still enjoy various locations on Awaji Island.

Access to the port – The captain will pick you up before the fishing trip.

Sushi Lunch(Option) – If you catch enough fish for lunch, the captain will arrange a sushi-making experience at the lodge.

Stay in Kobe

If you’re a foreign tourist looking to enjoy Japan’s urban life, staying in Kobe is a great choice.

Upon booking – You should book both a main and an alternative day for your fishing trip, as fishing is weather-dependent. Stay in Kobe during this period. The captain will confirm your departure 3 days in advance or, if the weather does not permit, suggest an alternative date. If all days are canceled due to rough conditions, you can still enjoy sightseeing in Kobe.

Access to the port – Take an express bus from Maiko Expressway (departing at 5:48 AM) to Sumoto Bus Center (arriving at 6:52 AM). The captain will pick you up at Sumoto Bus Center.

Sushi Lunch(Option) – If you catch enough fish for lunch, the captain will arrange a sushi-making experience at the lodge, located just a 20-minute drive away.”

This was one of the most pleasant fishing experiences I have had on a charter boat. Captain Tonga was a very accommodating and friendly fishing guide. We fished multiple spots that day around the Osaka Bay. What a great day of fishing that was. Captain Tonga is also an accomplished chef. He masterfully prepared our catch of the day at the lodge. Could not get any fresher sushi than that. The communication was so easy and pleasant as the Captain spoke fluent English. I learned a lot about the island and local fishing culture. I highly recommend this charter.
